About Sean Mills
My passion for photography goes back a far as I can remember. From the moment that I acquired my first gear, a vintage 35mm box camera, I have been a hopeless ‘shutterbug.’ My favorite subject is, and has always been, the wildlife and coastal regions of Long Island. I am constantly striving to capture the raw beauty of this dynamic landscape. Many of my photographs are the result of careful planning for the best light in the most opportune geographic location. I spend my year pursuing the Sun, the Moon, and the seasons all along the length of Long Island. I am always in search of misty harbors, kaleidoscopic sunsets, or surf tormented shores. As I high school earth science teacher, I have a good understanding of the natural cycles that drive the foreground and background elements of my photographs. I use all that I know about geology, astronomy, and meteorology to fuse the predictable with the serendipitous. The fruits of these labors appear frequently on News12 Long Island, in the pages of Newsday, and in brochures for the Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau. I consider my photographs to be a celebration of natural beauty, and I enjoy sharing them with others.
